About this calculator

Planning a wedding reception layout starts with a straightforward division: guest count ÷ seats per table, rounded up to the next whole table, tells you exactly how many tables the venue needs to accommodate. Rounding up also produces a remainder — the number of empty seats left over — which matters for both budget (rentals are usually billed per table) and room-flow planning.

Wedding planners, couples, and venue coordinators use this calculation early in the planning process, since the table count drives decisions about floor plan, linens, centerpieces, and how many table numbers or place cards to print, well before the final guest list is locked in.
