Find out how many points a word scores in Scrabble.

How it is calculated
The score is the sum of the standard English Scrabble tile values of the letters in the word. One point: A, E, I, O, U, L, N, S, T, R. Two points: D, G. Three: B, C, M, P. Four: F, H, V, W, Y. Five: K. Eight: J, X. Ten: Q, Z. The tool is not case sensitive, and it ignores anything that is not one of these 26 letters (spaces, digits, hyphens, accented or Turkish letters such as ç or ğ), counting only valid letters in the letter total. If there are no valid letters, no result is shown. It gives the base face-value score only: premium squares (double or triple letter or word), blank tiles worth zero, and the 50-point bonus for using all seven tiles are not added. It also does not check whether the word is accepted in a dictionary.
Worked example
Score the word QUARTZ. Q = 10, U = 1, A = 1, R = 1, T = 1 and Z = 10. Adding them gives 10 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 10 = 24. The tool shows a score of 24 from 6 letters. Placing the Z on a double-letter square would add 10 more points on the board, and using all seven tiles of the rack would add the 50-point bonus, but neither is included in this figure.
Common mistakes
- Expecting premium squares to be included. The tool gives the face-value total; double and triple multipliers must be applied by hand.
- Typing a blank tile as a letter. A blank scores zero on the board, but any letter typed here gets its normal value.
- Using non-English tile values. The tool applies English values, so a Turkish or German Scrabble set (where letters are worth different points) will score differently.
- Including a hyphen or space and expecting it to be scored. Only the 26 letters count, and the letter count tells you how many were used.
About this calculator
This calculator finds the point value of a word in Scrabble by adding up the standard English letter values — common letters like E and A are worth 1 point, rarer ones like Q and Z are worth 10 — the same values printed on the physical tiles. It sums each letter in your word, so you instantly see the base score before any board bonuses.
Scrabble players, Words With Friends fans, and word-game enthusiasts use it to check a word's value before playing it, settle disputes at the table, or plan which word maximizes points from their available letters. Type any word to get its total point value.
