About this calculator
This calculator determines how many bundles of asphalt roofing shingles a job needs from the roof's area, using the roofing-trade convention that three bundles cover one roofing square — 100 square feet of roof surface — for standard three-tab or architectural shingles.
It converts the entered roof area into squares, then multiplies by three to get the bundle count, which is how suppliers and contractors actually order and price shingles rather than by individual pieces. Ordering by this standard avoids the common problems of running short mid-job or overbuying — worth padding slightly for waste, cuts and hips/valleys, but this gives the baseline material quantity.
