About this calculator

This calculator divides a property's price by its total floor area to produce a single unit price, making it possible to compare properties of different sizes on a common basis rather than looking at total price alone. The same division can also run in reverse, estimating a property's likely value by applying a known area rate to its size.

Homebuyers, renters, and real estate investors use it to judge whether an asking price is reasonable relative to comparable properties in the same neighborhood, since a larger home at a lower total price isn't automatically a better deal once size is factored in. Agents and appraisers use similar math when establishing a fair market estimate for a listing.
