About this calculator
The statvolt is the unit of electric potential in the older CGS-Gaussian (electrostatic) system of units, defined so that 1 statvolt ≈ 299.792458 volts — a conversion factor that isn't arbitrary, it comes directly from the speed of light constant (c) that links electrostatic and SI electromagnetic units in Gaussian unit theory.
The statvolt rarely appears in modern engineering, which works almost exclusively in SI volts, but it still turns up in theoretical and plasma physics papers, older electromagnetism textbooks written in Gaussian units, and historical scientific literature — making this conversion mostly a tool for students and researchers reading or translating equations between the two unit systems.
