This tool converts a temperature reading between scales such as Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin, each of which uses linear formulas rather than a simple ratio, since these scales don't all share the same zero point. That's why converting temperature involves both multiplying and adding or subtracting an offset, unlike a straight unit conversion.

It's used when interpreting a weather forecast or oven setting given in an unfamiliar scale, when traveling between countries that use different systems, and in science or cooking contexts where a recipe or experiment specifies a temperature in a scale that doesn't match the equipment at hand.
