About this calculator

Treadmill displays show speed in miles or kilometers per hour, but runners plan and race by pace — minutes per mile or minutes per kilometer — so converting between the two is a routine step in structuring an indoor workout. The conversion itself is simple arithmetic (pace = 60 ÷ speed), but the useful part is projecting what that steady pace would produce over standard race distances, typically using an exponential race-time model such as Riegel's formula to extrapolate 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon finish times from one known pace.

Runners and coaches use this to translate a treadmill interval session into outdoor pace targets, to gauge fitness against upcoming race goals without leaving the gym, and to set treadmill speed for tempo or threshold work prescribed in min/mile terms. It's especially useful during winter training blocks or bad-weather stretches when most quality sessions happen indoors.

This calculator takes your treadmill speed in mph or km/h and returns your pace per mile and per kilometer, plus projected 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon times at that pace.
