Bracket Breakdown

Bracket Rate Taxable Tax

How it is calculated

The tool applies Turkey's 2025 wage-earner income tax tariff to the annual taxable amount you enter. The tax is progressive and marginal: each slice of income is taxed only at the rate of its own bracket. The slices are 0 to 158,000 at 15%, 158,000 to 330,000 at 20%, 330,000 to 1,200,000 at 27%, 1,200,000 to 4,300,000 at 35%, and anything above at 40%. For each bracket the engine takes the part of income that falls inside it, multiplies by its rate, and adds the results. Net is income minus total tax, and the effective rate is total tax divided by income. Amounts are in Turkish lira. It uses the wage tariff, so non-wage income is taxed on different thresholds, and no social security, stamp tax or allowances are deducted. Tariffs change every year.

Worked example

An annual taxable income of 600,000 falls into the first three brackets. The first 158,000 is taxed at 15%: 23,700. The next 172,000 (up to 330,000) is taxed at 20%: 34,400. The remaining 270,000 (up to 600,000) is taxed at 27%: 72,900. Adding these gives a total tax of 131,000.00 ₺, leaving a net of 469,000.00 ₺. The effective rate is 131,000 / 600,000 = 21.83%, well below the top bracket rate of 27% that applies to the last slice.

Common mistakes

  • Applying the top bracket rate (27% here) to the whole income. Only the part of income above 330,000 is taxed at that rate.
  • Entering a monthly salary when the brackets are annual, which keeps the result in the lowest bracket and understates the tax. Use the cumulative annual amount.
  • Entering the gross salary and expecting the result to be the final take-home pay. Social security and unemployment contributions are not deducted by this tool, and the tax base is usually already net of them.
  • Using the 2025 tariff for another year's income. Brackets and thresholds are updated every year.

About this calculator

This calculator applies Turkey's 2025 progressive income tax brackets to a gross salary or annual income, working out how much falls into each bracket and the resulting total tax and net (take-home) amount, the way Turkish payroll actually calculates it.

Employees use it to check what a gross salary offer really means as net pay, HR and payroll staff use it to verify calculations, and freelancers or business owners use it to estimate their annual tax liability. Because Turkey's system is progressive, only the income within each bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate, not the whole amount.
