About this calculator

This calculator finds wind chill using the U.S. National Weather Service's metric formula, WCT = 13.12 + 0.6215T − 11.37V^0.16 + 0.3965TV^0.16, where T is air temperature in °C and V is wind speed in km/h — the equation that converts a thermometer reading into how cold the air actually feels against exposed skin, and flags the frostbite risk that goes with it.

Hikers, outdoor workers, and parents dressing kids for winter use it to judge how many layers a given forecast actually calls for, and weather forecasters use the same formula to generate the "feels like" temperature shown in winter weather reports.
