About this calculator

This calculator estimates a wind turbine's power output using P = ½ × ρ × A × v³ × Cp, where ρ is air density, A is the rotor swept area, v is wind speed, and Cp is the power coefficient (efficiency), capped by the Betz limit of about 59%. Because power scales with the cube of wind speed, small changes in wind speed produce large changes in output.

Renewable energy students use it to check homework on wind power, and hobbyists sizing a small home turbine use it to estimate realistic power and daily energy output before investing. Enter the rotor diameter, wind speed, power coefficient, and air density to get instantaneous power and estimated daily energy.
