About this calculator

Average order value (AOV) is one of the simplest and most-used e-commerce metrics: total revenue ÷ number of orders in a given period, giving the typical dollar amount a customer spends per transaction. It says nothing on its own about profit margin or customer count — it purely measures transaction size.

Because total revenue is really the product of traffic, conversion rate and AOV, raising AOV is one of the few growth levers that doesn’t require attracting a single new visitor — tactics like bundling, free-shipping thresholds, upsells and cross-sells all work by nudging AOV upward. E-commerce managers and digital marketers track AOV alongside conversion rate and traffic to diagnose where revenue growth should come from and to measure the impact of merchandising and pricing changes.
