About this calculator

Cost Per Order (CPO) is a core e-commerce fulfillment metric: total fulfillment cost (picking, packing, shipping, labor) plus overhead (warehouse rent, software, admin) divided by the number of orders processed in the same period. This calculator adds your fulfillment cost and overhead together and divides by order count to give a single per-order figure.

Online retailers and third-party logistics (3PL) providers track CPO to price fulfillment services, negotiate carrier and warehouse contracts, and — critically — compare it against average order value (AOV) to see whether fulfillment is eating into margins on smaller orders. A rising CPO with flat order volume is often the first warning sign that overhead has outgrown the operation, which is why operations managers watch this number alongside shipping cost per order and pick-and-pack labor cost.
