About this calculator

Cardiovascular age (also called heart age or vascular age) reframes a person’s cluster of cardiovascular risk factors as an equivalent chronological age — the age at which someone with an average risk profile would carry the same probability of a cardiovascular event. The concept grew out of Framingham Heart Study risk equations and multivariable risk scores such as the D’Agostino general cardiovascular disease risk function, which combine blood pressure, smoking status, diabetes, and cholesterol levels (total and HDL) with actual age to compute event risk.

Physicians and public-health campaigns use heart-age framing because a statement like “your heart is fifty-eight but you are forty-two” communicates elevated risk more intuitively than a raw ten-year percentage, and it has been shown in studies to motivate risk-factor modification more effectively than probability figures alone.

This calculator takes your chronological age along with blood pressure, smoking status, diabetes status, and cholesterol values and returns an estimated cardiovascular age; it is an educational approximation of published risk models, not a diagnostic tool or medical advice.
