About this calculator

The fully loaded labor cost of an employee is far more than their hourly wage — it adds the cost of benefits (health insurance, retirement contributions, paid time off) and payroll overhead (employer payroll taxes, workers’ comp, equipment and facilities), each usually expressed as a percentage on top of the base wage.

Businesses that quote hourly rates for services or bill out labor on projects use the fully loaded number, not the base wage, to make sure a quoted price actually covers what an employee costs the company. This calculator adds the benefits percentage and overhead percentage to the base wage to find the true hourly cost.
