About this calculator

In trading card games like Magic: The Gathering, the mana curve is the distribution of a deck’s cards across their mana costs, and the average mana value (sometimes called converted mana cost) summarizes it in a single number: AMV = (sum of each card’s mana cost) / (number of cards).

Deck builders watch this number closely because it’s a quick proxy for how a deck plays: a low average mana value means cheap, early plays that curve out fast (typical of aggressive decks), while a higher one signals a deck leaning on powerful but expensive late-game cards (typical of control or ramp decks). A well-shaped curve — enough cheap spells to survive the early turns and enough top-end to close the game — is one of the first things competitive players check when tuning a decklist. This calculator takes a comma-separated list of your card costs and returns the card count, total mana, and average mana cost of the deck.
