About this calculator
MCHC (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration) is a standard red-blood-cell index reported on a complete blood count (CBC), measuring the average concentration of hemoglobin inside a given volume of packed red cells. It's calculated as MCHC = (hemoglobin / hematocrit) × 100, expressed in grams per deciliter, and describes how densely each red cell is packed with the oxygen-carrying protein hemoglobin.
Clinicians use MCHC alongside MCV (mean corpuscular volume) and MCH (mean corpuscular hemoglobin) to classify anemia: a low MCHC (hypochromic) often points toward iron-deficiency anemia or thalassemia, while a high MCHC (hyperchromic) can suggest hereditary spherocytosis or certain lab artifacts. This calculator takes your hemoglobin and hematocrit values from a blood test and returns the calculated MCHC.
