This calculator computes net working hours by subtracting break time from a shift's total scheduled length: net hours = shift length − break time, giving the actual hours an employee is available for productive work rather than the raw clock-in-to-clock-out span.

HR teams, payroll systems and workforce schedulers use this distinction constantly, since labor laws in many jurisdictions require unpaid meal and rest breaks to be excluded from paid working time, and staffing calculations (like how many workers are needed to cover a shift) need to reflect actual productive hours, not gross shift duration.
