About this calculator

Under standard US wage practice, overtime pay is typically calculated at 1.5 times an employee’s regular hourly rate for hours worked beyond 40 in a week, per the Fair Labor Standards Act, while double time — usually 2 times the regular rate — kicks in under more specific conditions, such as California’s rule for hours beyond 12 in a single day, or work on designated holidays. Employers can also set their own, more generous multipliers as part of a labor agreement or company policy.

On top of those multipliers, a shift differential (extra pay for less desirable night, weekend or holiday shifts) adds another layer before the paycheck is finalized, and withholding for taxes then separates gross pay from actual take-home pay.

This calculator lets you set your own overtime and double-time multipliers, add a shift differential and withholding rate, and returns your gross pay, premium pay earned and net take-home total.
