About this calculator

The percentile rank of a score tells you what fraction of a data set falls at or below it, expressed on a 0-to-100 scale. The standard formula counts how many values in the data set fall strictly below the score, adds half the number of values that are exactly tied with it (so ties are split fairly rather than all counted as 'below' or all as 'above'), divides by the total number of values, and multiplies by 100.

This tie-splitting detail matters in real data sets where several values repeat, and it is what standardized testing companies, schools, and psychometricians use when they report that a score is 'in the 85th percentile' — meaning it performed as well as or better than about 85% of the comparison group. It is used constantly in test score reporting, pediatric growth charts, salary benchmarking, and any situation where a raw number needs context about where it stands relative to everyone else's.

Enter your full data set and the score you want to check, and the calculator returns its percentile rank within that set.
