Pizza Value Calculator
Find the best-value pizza by area.
Result
How it is calculated
A pizza's size grows with the square of its diameter, so the tool works with area: area = π × (d / 2)², with the diameter d in cm and the result in cm². It then divides the price by that area to get the price per square centimetre, value = price ÷ area. A lower value is better. Because one cm² costs a tiny amount, the figure is shown with two decimals and may read $0.02; to compare sizes, multiply by 100 or compare the same measure for each pizza. The tool ignores crust thickness, toppings and thickness of dough, which also affect real value.
Worked example
A 30 cm pizza costs 12. Radius = 15 cm. Area = π × 15² = 706.86 cm². Price per cm² = 12 / 706.86 = 0.017, which the tool rounds to $0.02. Compare with a 40 cm pizza at 20: area is π × 20² = 1,256.64 cm² and the price per cm² is 20 / 1,256.64 = 0.016. The larger one is slightly cheaper per cm² even though it costs more.
Common mistakes
- Comparing diameters instead of areas: a 40 cm pizza has about 1.8 times the area of a 30 cm one, not 1.33 times.
- Entering the radius or the size in inches instead of the diameter in cm.
- Judging by the rounded value alone, which can hide small differences; compare the area figures as well.
- Ignoring that thick or stuffed crusts give less topping per cm² than a thin-crust pizza.
About this calculator
This calculator finds each pizza's area using πr² (since pizza size is almost always given as a diameter, not an area) and divides the price by that area to get a true price-per-cm² or price-per-square-inch — the only fair way to compare pizzas, since a 16-inch pizza has about 78% more area than a 12-inch one, not 33% more as the diameter difference might suggest.
It's used by anyone comparing a "10-inch for $12" deal against a "14-inch for $20" deal, families deciding whether one large pizza is a better value than two mediums, and pizzeria owners setting prices that stay consistent in cost-per-area across their size menu.
