Bracket Breakdown

Bracket Rate Taxable Tax

How it is calculated

The tool applies the 2017 wage-earner (ücret) income tax tariff to an annual taxable income in Turkish lira. Tax is progressive, so each rate applies only to the slice of income that falls in that bracket: 0–13,000 at 15%, 13,000–30,000 at 20%, 30,000–110,000 at 27% and anything above 110,000 at 35%. Total tax is Σ (income inside bracket × rate), and the tool also shows net income and the effective rate tax / income. It does not subtract allowances, social security or stamp tax. The non-wage tariff for 2017 has a different third bound (70,000), so this result does not fit that income, and other years use other brackets.

Worked example

A taxable annual income of 60,000. The first 13,000 at 15% is 1,950. The next 17,000 (up to 30,000) at 20% is 3,400. The remaining 30,000 at 27% is 8,100. Total tax = 1,950 + 3,400 + 8,100 = 13,450.00 ₺. Net = 60,000 − 13,450 = 46,550.00 ₺, with an effective rate of 22.42%.

Common mistakes

  • Applying the 27% rate to the entire income instead of only the slice between 30,000 and 110,000.
  • Entering gross pay: remove social security and unemployment contributions and exemptions first, since the tool taxes only the number typed.
  • Using a monthly figure; the 2017 brackets are annual amounts.
  • Using this table for another year or for non-wage income, whose third bound is 70,000 rather than 110,000.
  • Reading the effective rate as the bracket rate: here it is 22.42%, below the top rate reached.

About this calculator

This calculator reproduces Turkey's 2017 progressive income tax brackets — 15%, 20%, 27% and 35%, the tariff in force that year — converting a gross income figure into the tax due and the resulting net pay, with each slice of income taxed at its own rate as earnings climb into higher bands.

Payroll teams and accountants use it to reconcile old payslips, prepare back-dated calculations, or settle a dispute over a specific year's withholding, since Turkey's brackets shift annually and old years are easy to miscalculate with today's rates.
