About this calculator

The T-test is a standardized agility drill used in sports science: an athlete sprints forward 9.14 m, shuffles laterally 4.57 m to each side, and backpedals to the start, covering a total of 36.58 m that combines forward speed, lateral movement and change of direction into a single completion time. Because the distance is fixed, a faster completion time translates directly into a higher average speed across the drill, giving a single comparable number for multidirectional quickness.

Strength and conditioning coaches use the T-test to assess and track agility in sports that demand rapid changes of direction — soccer, basketball, tennis and American football among them — and it is a common component of pre-season fitness testing batteries and combine-style evaluations alongside sprint and jump tests.

This calculator takes your T-test completion time and converts it into your average speed across the drill's fixed 36.58 m path.
