About this calculator

The standing broad (long) jump is a classic test of explosive lower-body power, but raw distance alone doesn't account for the fact that a taller person naturally jumps farther with the same relative power output. Benchmarking the jump against body height — typically expressed as jump distance ÷ height, or as a percentage — normalizes for that, making the score comparable across athletes of different sizes.

This calculator takes a jump distance and body height in the same unit and returns the height-normalized score. Strength and conditioning coaches use this ratio to track an athlete's explosive power gains over a training cycle independent of growth or body size, and PE teachers and combine-style athletic testers (echoing tests used at events like the NFL Scouting Combine) use it to compare performance fairly across a roster of different-sized athletes.
