Employee retention rate measures the share of staff who stayed with a company across a given period, calculated as (employees at period end who were also there at period start) divided by (employees at period start), expressed as a percentage. Its mirror image, the turnover rate, captures the share who left — the two numbers together give a complete picture of workforce stability.
