About this calculator

A powerlifter's total is simply the sum of their best successful lift in each of the three competition movements — squat, bench press and deadlift — with each lift attempted three times and only the heaviest successful attempt in each counting toward the total. This total is the primary ranking metric within a single weight class at a meet, and it's also the raw number that feeds into bodyweight-adjusted formulas like Wilks, DOTS and IPF GL Points, which allow fair comparison of lifters across different weight classes.

Federations like the IPF, USAPL and USPA use the three-lift total as the backbone of their competition format, and lifters use it in training to set meet goals, track progress across a training cycle, and calculate what combination of squat, bench and deadlift improvements they need to hit a target total or qualify for a higher-level meet.

This calculator adds your best squat, bench press and deadlift to instantly give you your competition total, so you can check your standing or plan your next meet goals.
