This calculator estimates the peak impact force of a punch from the physics of momentum change: F = m·v ⁄ t, where m is the effective mass actually driven into the target (not full body weight — more like the mass of the arm and engaged shoulder/hip rotation), v is the impact speed, and t is the very short contact time over which that momentum is transferred.

Because contact time is typically just a few milliseconds, small changes in t produce large swings in estimated force, which is exactly why trained strikers who snap the fist back quickly generate more perceived force than someone who pushes through the target. The calculator also reports the kinetic energy, ½mv², delivered by the strike, giving a second, complementary way to compare punches — useful for martial artists exploring the physics behind technique.
