About this calculator

The Wingate test is a 30-second all-out cycling sprint against a fixed resistance load (typically set relative to body mass), from which this calculator derives three standard metrics: peak power (the highest power output, usually measured over the best 5-second window, reflecting anaerobic alactic capacity), mean power (the average across all 30 seconds, reflecting anaerobic glycolytic capacity), and the fatigue index = (peak power − lowest power) ÷ peak power × 100%, which shows how quickly output drops off.

Sports scientists and exercise physiologists use the Wingate test as the gold-standard lab measure of anaerobic power and capacity, and strength and conditioning coaches use the resulting numbers to track an athlete's sprint and power-endurance development over a training cycle, particularly for sports like cycling, sprinting, and team sports with repeated high-intensity efforts.
