About this calculator
Body frame size — small, medium or large — reflects skeletal structure rather than fat or muscle, and it's most commonly estimated from the ratio of height to wrist circumference: for adults, a height-to-wrist ratio above roughly 10.4 (men) or 11.0 (women) indicates a small frame, a middle range indicates medium, and a ratio below that indicates a large frame (exact cutoffs vary slightly by source).
Dietitians and clinicians reference frame size when interpreting "ideal weight" tables and body-composition norms, since standard weight charts typically assume a medium frame — a large-framed person can carry more lean mass at a healthy weight than the same chart implies, and a small-framed person may look overweight on the same chart while actually carrying excess fat rather than bone and muscle. It's a simple corrective step that stops a single generic weight range from being applied to very differently built people.
This calculator takes your height and wrist circumference and returns your estimated body frame size.
