About this calculator

Prorating a bonus means scaling the full-period bonus amount down to reflect only the portion of the period actually worked — the standard approach is (days worked ÷ total days in the period) × full bonus, though some employers count working days only or use months instead of days. This comes up whenever an employee doesn't work the entire bonus-eligible period: new hires who start partway through the year, employees who leave before the period ends, or workers returning from extended unpaid leave.

This calculator takes the full bonus amount and the days actually worked, and returns the prorated payout along with the percentage of the period it represents. HR and payroll teams processing mid-year hires or departures, and employees checking that a partial bonus was calculated correctly use it to get a clear, defensible number instead of an ad hoc estimate.
