About this calculator

The conicity index compares your actual waist circumference to the waist a perfect cylinder of your same weight and height would have, using C = waist ÷ [0.109 × √(weight ÷ height)] (waist and height in meters, weight in kilograms). A value near 1.0 means a cylindrical body shape; higher values mean fat is concentrated more like two cones meeting at the waist.

Researchers developed it as a better predictor of cardiovascular risk than BMI, since it specifically isolates central (abdominal) fat — the kind most strongly linked to heart disease and type 2 diabetes — rather than just overall body mass, which BMI can't distinguish from a broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted build.
