How it is calculated
The Wilks score rescales a lifted total so lifters of different bodyweights can be compared. A coefficient is found from a fifth-degree polynomial of bodyweight x (in kg): denominator = a + b·x + c·x2 + d·x3 + e·x4 + f·x5, then coefficient = 500 / denominator and score = coefficient × lifted. The six constants differ for men and women; the tool uses the female set only when sex is set to female, otherwise the male set. The lifted weight should be in the same unit as bodyweight (kg). The score is shown to two decimals and the coefficient to four. Bodyweight must be above zero.
Worked example
A male lifter weighing 80 kg with a 500 kg total. The male polynomial at x = 80 gives a denominator of about 732.4, so the coefficient is 500 / 732.4 = 0.6827. Then 0.6827 × 500 = 341.35 Wilks points. A heavier lifter with the same total would get a lower coefficient and a lower score.
Common mistakes
- Entering bodyweight in pounds while the polynomial expects kilograms, which gives a meaningless coefficient.
- Entering a single lift (such as the squat) instead of the competition total of squat, bench and deadlift.
- Leaving sex on male for a female lifter; the two sets of constants give clearly different coefficients.
- Mixing units: a total in pounds and a bodyweight in kilograms.
About this calculator
This calculator finds your Wilks score from bodyweight, total weight lifted, and sex, using the Wilks coefficient formula to normalize a powerlifting total against bodyweight. Because raw totals naturally favor heavier lifters, the Wilks coefficient scales each total so lifters across different weight classes can be ranked on equal footing.
Competitive powerlifters use it to see how their total stacks up against lifters in other weight classes, and meet organizers use the same coefficient to determine best-lifter awards across an entire competition. Enter your bodyweight, total, and sex to get your Wilks score.
